In the world of film marketing it seems like new trailers are released every day. There is the teaser for the teaser trailer, the official trailer, the second official trailer and the TV Spots 1 through to 5. It’s become predictable and even a little boring.
It’s refreshing, therefore, to see something different.
The social trend for vlogging has taken off in the past few years, with some of the most popular vloggers earning thousands and gaining their own celebrity status. Tapping into this trend to promote Ridley Scott’s new film The Martian, is an ingenious idea and introduces the film in a way that certainly grabs the viewers’ attention.
The video in question sees Matt Damon’s character, astronaut Mark Watney, take us on a tour of the Ares 3 spaceship, introducing us the rest of the team, including Jessica Chastain’s Commander Lewis, in a natural and real way.
Relationships and characteristics start to be defined, even in this short video, which serves to ground the Space set movie, with the emphasis on the characters rather than the spectacle of Space!
No detail is left unturned, with the video also featuring scrolling tweets, trending topics and crew facts, all of which only adds to the realistic quality.
“how does he shave his head in space? #vogel #skills #importantquestions #Areslive”
This 3 minute long video had me hooked and I am now excited to see this film and the official trailer released yesterday, confirmed it!
