The Weekly Round Up! – 30th June 2015

Here We Go Again…

Before we go any further, let me make it clear that I am not against remakes in general, in some cases they are actually better than the originals and I am all for opening a film up to new audiences. Having said that, however, there are some films that you just don’t touch!

das_boot

German magazine Blickpunkt Film reported on Thursday that Das Boot, Wolfgang Peterson’s epic World War Two submarine drama, will be remade by Bavaria Studio, the same company that made the original. The 1981 film is without a doubt a classic,  following the trials and tribulations of life at sea for a U-boat crew in the midst of the Second World War. I believe that the complicated effect the film had, and continues to have, on audiences will be practically impossible for filmmakers to recreate.

Let’s Take a Look…

Legend has released a new trailer, the film which tells the story of the infamous Kray twins stars Tom Hardy as both Ronald and Reginald. With an incredible supporting cast that includes David Thewlis, Christopher Eccleston and Taron Edgerton, the film’s dark and no holds barred approach is more than enough to intrigue me!

And We Have A Lead…

joseph-fiennesJoseph Fiennes has been cast in The Last Race, an unofficial sequel to the Oscar winning Chariots of Fire. The film, due to be released next year, will focus on the life of Scottish runner Eric Liddell after the 1924 Olympic Games, primarily his work as a missionary in China.

In Other News…

Chris-Pine-Zachary-Quinto-2048x2048Trekkies can rest assured that Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will return for a fourth outing as Captain Kirk and Spock if Paramount decide to continue the franchise, with the pair having re-negotiated their contracts. With JJ Abrams having departed for a galaxy far, far away, directing duties for the third outing have fallen to Justin Lin, best known for his work on the Fast and Furious franchise.  The plot of the new film remains shrouded on mystery, although yesterday Lin confirmed the title, Star Trek Beyond.

Guardians-of-the-Galaxy-teamSimple is best at least according to James Gunn. The director recently confirmed that the second Guardians of the Galaxy film would be called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The confirmation came after Kevin Feige head honcho at Marvel Studio let it slip while out promoting the latest Marvel superhero entry; Ant-Man.

That’s all till next week!
