Apologies for not posting the past few weeks, I am helping out on the media team for the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford and just haven’t had the time. So in the spirit of aviation here is a story that grabbed my attention a few weeks ago.
And We Have Lift Off…
It has been confirmed that not only will Top Gun 2 finally go ahead but Tom Cruise will return as Maverick!
There have been rumours of a sequel to the hugely successful 1986 film for several years but the project grounded to a halt after the death of director Tony Scott in 2012.
However it appears to have gained traction ever since it was announced that Justin Marks had been hired to rewrite the script last September. Marks is best known for his producing work, with his most notable writing credit so far being Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li.
It was in a recent interview that the CEO of Skydance Productions David Ellison confirmed Tom Cruise’s involvement.
“There is an amazing role for Maverick in the movie and there is no Top Gun without Maverick. It is going to be Maverick playing Maverick.”
Ellison also gave away a few plot details in the interview, stating that the new script will involve drones and remote pilots, with the focus very much on the modern world of air warfare.
While the news that Tom Cruise is returning have fans celebrating, just mention of the word drones has filled them with apprehension.
With no director as yet attached to the project, fans are in for a long wait to see if the sequel will be able to recapture the magic of the original!
