Ted 2 review

Has Seth McFarlane lost his magic touch? This is the question audiences are asking themselves as they leave the cinema after watching Ted 2!

2012 was McFarlane’s year, Family Guy was as strong and as popular as ever and he had successfully made the transition to the big screen with Ted, the surprising comedic hit about an average guy and his talking teddy bear best friend.

Since then McFarlane’s luck appears to have changed, at least on the big screen. His second film, A Million Ways To Die in the West flopped at the box office. Crass and unfunny, not even a number of high profile cameos, such as Ryan Reynolds, Jamie Foxx and Ewan McGregor, could save this film from itself.

Unfortunately Ted 2 continues this bad form. it is unfunny, arguably the worse criticism you can give a comedy film.

It goes for the obvious, often offensive jokes instead of taking the time to be clever about which was the strongest element of the first film.

The films biggest problem are the two lead characters Ted and John, both McFarlane and Mark Wahlberg seems to be cruising through the film, at least appearing to put little effort into their performances, which causes the jokes to fall flat. The first film wasn’t afraid to put the them in the comedic firing line, Ted 2 is far more protective of them, choosing to leave them alone.

Amanda Seyfried stepped in as the love interest, with Mila Kunis not returning. The reason behind Kunis’ character’s absence is ignored for majority of the film, leaving the audience frustrated and confused.

Ted 2 is a disappointment and it feels like McFarlane has simply stopped bothering to put the effort in. Save your money and just re-watch Ted, you’ll have a much better time!
