Film’s I’m excited for in 2016

This list by no means covers all the films that I’m excited for this year but it is a start and features the ones that reach the fan-girl squeal level of excitement.

There is no particular order to this list, but I will admit that for the first film featured I am excited to the point of taking a day’s holiday to see if first thing in the morning, followed by a break (to get my heart rate down) and then watch it again in the afternoon!

Captain America: Civil War

captainamericacivilwarart2

Release Date: May 6

Starring: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Anthony Mackie, Tom Holland (and pretty much the rest of the Avengers minus Thor).

WHAT more do Marvel film fans want than to see the Avengers divided by an important political issue and then fight about it?

Answer: Nothing.

Despite the obvious bromance in Age of Ultron, Captain America and Iron Man are destined for a big showdown as their different moral codes lead to contradictory views over the Superhero Registration Act.

The trailer didn’t give much away but did give us glimpse at what could possibly be the fight scene of the year with Cap and Bucky (a.k.a. The Winter Soldier) working together to bring down Iron Man.

Bonus excitement: getting our first glimpse (maybe more) of Tom Holland as the new Spiderman…on whose side will he be?

Hail Caesar!

hail-caesar05

Release Date: February 17

Starring: George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Ralph Fiennes, Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill

THE Coen Brothers have put together a masterpiece in ostentatious film-making inspired by the glitz and glamour of Hollywood in the 1950s.

Eddie Mannix is a fixer for Capital Pictures, cleaning up after and solving problems for the stars, but when studio star Baird Whitlock disappears, Mannix has more to deal with than just the fix.

The trailer provides a snapshot of the host of famous stars in various situations, including George Clooney in full Roman get-up and Channing Tatum as a singing sailor.

A teaser released this month showed Ralph Fiennes on the same comedic form that made The Grand Budapest Hotel such a great film.

Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice

Batman-v-Superman

Release Date: March 25

Starring: Henry Cavil, Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jeremey Irons, Amy Adams and Jesse Eisenberg

DC bring out the big hitters as they challenge the dominance of Marvel in the world of comic book films.

Technically Man of Steel 2, the film deals with the consequences of the reveal of Superman’s and the destruction of Metropolis during his showdown with Zod.

An older, tired, version of Batman fears what will happen if Superman is left unchecked, deciding to take on the god-like superhero himself sparking a whole host of new and updated gadgets that make the utility belt seem incredibly old school.

However with the two heroes distracted fighting each other, Lex Luthor is, as expected, up to no good, creating Doomsday.

Can Batman and Superman put aside their differences long enough to team up with Wonder Woman and put a stop to Luthor’s plans?

Given two Justice League movies have already been announced the answer is clearly yes – but it will still be exciting to watch Superman answering Batman’s question: ‘Do you bleed?’

Suicide Squad

NEDZqOLVmkgjHH_1_b

Release Date: August 5

Starring: Jerod Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Scott Eastwood

DC continues it’s challenge by bringing out the bad guys. All of its classic villains, from the Joker to Harley Quinn, Deadshot to Captain Boomerang in one film.

Viewers of the Arrow will be familiar with the Suicide Squad idea, but for those that aren’t, basically a top secret government agency, ARGUS decides to create a task-force of Super Villains, code-named Suicide Squad. They are assigned to execute dangerous tasks in exchange for shorter prison sentences.

What could possibly go wrong?

I’ll be honest I was excited for this film after the first trailer, but the second one, released last night took it to a whole new level.

It used Bohemian Rhapsody as the theme song which already shows that not only does this film have balls but it’s going to be epic!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

1280x720_pride_prejudice_zombies

Release Date: February 11

Starring: Lily James, Douglas Booth, Matt Smith and Lena Headley

THE Jane Austen classic gets a horror movie make over in an adaption of Seth-Grahame Smith’s genre mash-up novel.

The tangled relationships between the various lovers not only face the challenge of 19th Century social rules, but also that of an army of undead zombies.

The Bennett sisters, led by Lizzy (Lily James) are a united band of fighters, capable of dispatching any zombie that attacks, but affairs of the heart will complicate matters.

Sam Riley has the big shoes of Colin Firth and Matthew MacFadyen to fill as he takes on the iconic role of Mr Darcy, while Douglas Booth is the dashing Mr Bingley.

Romance, 19th Century fashion and Zombies, what more can a girl want?

Honourable Mentions: Star Trek Beyond, X Men Apocalypse, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Deadpool, Doctor Strange, High Rise, Warcraft, Allegiant, Eddie the Eagle and Bourne 5!
